The LC50's and LC95's of DDT and BHC for larvae of Culex pipiens L. collected in 1970-71 from 10 places in the western Soviet Union and of DDT and dieldrin for adults from 4 of the places were determined by standard WHO methods. No resistance to DDT was found in any of the larvae, and resistance to BHC was found only in those from Lenkoran and Sukhumi and, at a low level, in those from Odessa. Adults from Moscow and Novocherkassk were normally susceptible to DDT and dieldrin, those from Odessa were resistant to DDT only and those from Lenkoran were highly resistant to both insecticides. A table is included showing the chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticides previously used for mosquito control in the places from which the collections were made.
