Larvae and adults of mosquito (C. p. fatigans) were fed on labeled choline and ethanolamine and the incorporation of the label into different lipid fractions was studied. In both larvae and adults the radioactivity from [14C]choline was incorporated into phosphatidylcholine and lysophosphatidylcholine to a greater extent than in other lipid fractions. A significant amount of radioactivity from [14C]choline was detected in neutral lipid fraction in larvae while in adults this fraction was not labeled. The label from [14C]choline was also incorporated into phosphatidylethanolamine fraction of larvae and adults. The label from [14C]ethanolamine was mainly incorporated into minor phospholipids and phosphatidylethanolamine, while in the larvae greater incorporation was found in minor phospholipids. Phosphatidylcholine and neutral lipid fractions were also labeled when [14C]ethanolamine was fed to larvae or adults.
