Spherical virus particles about 60 nm in diameter and hexagonal polyhedra 0.1-0.4 mu m in diameter were found in numerous larvae of Culex pipiens pipiens L. collected near Kiev (Soviet Union) from water that had been treated with an attractant. As the incidence of polyhedrosis virus in mosquitos does not usually exceed 1%, it is suggested that the infections in these larvae were the result of stress caused by the attractant.
