Neuraminidase activity of three variants of influenza virus strain A/Hong Kong/1/68 (II3 N2) of different virulence and of two variants of influenza virus A/Singapore/1/57 (H2 N2) differing in passage levels was assessed by incubating the viruses with ovomucine at different temperatures and by determining the reaction product. Significant differences in temperature optima of enzyme activity were found between some of these virus variants.
