Unvaccinated chicks from immune hens had a high resistance to challenge with an aerosol of a virulent virus strain for eight days after hatching, after which mortality was higher than in vaccinated birds. In susceptibile chicks and those with maternal antibodies, better protection was achieved by vaccination with full strength vaccine at four days of age than with one seventh of the normal dose at one day.
