Chicks given live B1 or LaSota vaccine, in some cases followed by an oil emulsion inactivated vaccine (strain Ulster 2C), developed good resistance to intravenous challenge with the variant paramyxovirus-1 virus. There was no advantage of using LaSota instead of B1. HI titres to 561/83 antigen (the first UK isolate of the variant virus) were consistently 1-3 log2 lower than to NDV-F reference antigen in vaccinated birds.
