The authors have confirmed their hypothesis that the circulating antibodies of maternal origin which interfere with vaccinial immunity against Newcastle disease are in turn neutralized in the chick by contact with the specific antigen: the vaccinial virus. This has allowed a sound immunity in chicks with high levels of maternal antibodies to be attained by executing two vaccinations: one at four days old and the other at seven. The first vaccination neutralized almost all the maternal antibodies thus permitting the second to evocate an uniform immunity throughout the group and of sufficient strength to protect it from the test infection.
