Mosquitos were collected at Bangpra in south-eastern Thailand in 1962-68 in attempts to isolate Japanese encephalitis virus for the first time in Thailand. Most were collected in light-traps and from a trap baited with a horse; they were triturated in pools of 100-200 and injected into mice. A total of 31 strains of Japanese encephalitis virus were isolated, 18 from Culex gelidus Theo. and 13 from C. tritaeniorhynchus Giles.
