The in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activities of 3 series of 1,2,4-oxa(thia)diazoles (3,4-disubstituted -1,2,4-oxadiazole-5(4H)-thiones, -thiadiazole-5(4H)-ones, -thiadiazole-5(4H)-thiones) were investigated. All derivatives were less active against 4 bacterial spp. and Candida albicans, C. pseudotropicalis [C. kefyr], C. parapsilosis and Cryptococcus neoformans than ampicillin or clotrimazole. The in vitro antifungal activities of 5 compounds were noteworthy when compared with clotrimazole.
