Skin scrapings from crusty hairless lesions on the head and ears of a 10-week-old rabbit were examined in 10% KOH and histological preparations of skin sections were made. Hyperkeratosis, polymorphonuclear leukocytes, inflammatory cells and hyphae were found in skin preparations and large ectothrix arthrospores were seen round the circumference of many hair shafts, along which hyphae were growing. M. gypseum was isolated.
