Glutamic acid, glycine, leucine, phenylalanine and lysine were estimated in relation to growth rate and dry wt. Incorporation of these acids into the mycelium of the 3 fungi took place differently. Free amino acids occurred in mycelium during growth. The composition of the amino acid pools were different for the fungi, being nearly independent of the amino acid content of the medium.
