The pathogenesis of fungal infections of the skin, hair and nails and the pharmacology of drugs available for their treatment are discussed. Reference is made to some unpublished studies by the author on a comparison of Whitfield's ointment (77% cure rate) and clotrimazole (87%) and on the use of ciclopirox (clinical cure rate 83.3%, mycological cure rate 88.3% after 6 weeks) for therapy of dermatomycoses.
