The following is based partly on the authors' abstract. Nineteen strains of Sicilian-type and two strains of Naples-type sandfly fever virus were recovered from wild-caught examples of Phlebotomus papatasi (Scop.) collected in Cairo, Egypt. This was the only species of Phlebotomid entering dwellings in the area studied. Maximum virus transmission appears to occur in August and September, with some activity extending to November.
