A small-scale trial was conducted in a village in Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, India, where 3 human dwellings and 4 cattle sheds (constructed of mud) were fitted with brick and cement skirting at the junction of the floor and walls to prevent rodent and sandfly access and the creation of favourable sandfly 'breeding' sites. Two dwellings and 2 cattle sheds were used as controls. After intervention there was an overall reduction in P. papatasi density.
