Morphometric differences between samples of Phlebotomus papatasi (Scop.) from different habitats were found in a study made in the Tedzhen district of the Turkmen SSR. The spiracular index (length of anterior thoracic stigma/length of mesonotum) in males of P. papatasi from villages was the lowest, that of males from burrows of Meriones erythrourus was higher and that of sandflies from burrows of Rhombomys opimus was highest of all. Seasonal variation in the spiracular index and the mesonotal length was found in samples from village populations of P. papatasi.
