B. bronchiseptica infection was diagnosed in a closed breeding colony of cats of 'minimal disease' health status. No signs of feline respiratory disease had previously been seen in the colony. Clinical signs were seen only in cats 3.5-6 months old and consisted mainly of a dry cough, with some occasional sneezing. B. bronchiseptica was isolated from throat swabs of affected cats but not from others. Antibiotic treatment was given, but response was slow and so it was discontinued and the cats allowed to recover spontaneously. The source of infection was thought to have been an outbreak of B. bronchiseptica respiratory disease in another species on the same site.
