Suspected equine infectious anemia in man

The history of a case of aplastic anemia and a case of hypoplastic anemia in humans is given. Filtered blood samples, from both of the above cases, failed to produce symptoms of infectious anemia when injected into normal test horses, indicating that there was no connection between these cases and infectious anemia of horses. The susceptibility of the normal test horses was confirmed by subsequent exposure to a known strain of virus. Incidentally, the blood from two carrier cases, one of 11 years' standing and the other of 3½ years' standing, used as exposure material in these experiments was demonstrated to be still infectious.
