Effects of A. tumefaciens lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on the hemolytic complement activity were studied and the results were compared with that of Salmonella typhimurium LPS. The A. tumefaciens showed low anticomplementary activity unlike S. typhimurium LPS although the chemical compositions of both LPS are almost similar. In low serum concentration the complement fixing ability of both LPS was almost the same but in high serum concentration S. typhimurium LPS fixed greater amount of complement than that of A. tumefaciens LPS.
