The disease, the viroid agent, the viroid molecule, spread of the disease and strategies of control are discussed. The causal viroid is the smallest known pathogen and a major change in size due to the reiteration of c. 20% of the molecule is correlated with the development of more severe symptoms. A simple PAGE assay can identify the stage of disease as early or late. There are no direct means of control but it is concluded that improving diagnostic tests may lead to the development of some effective measures.
