An overview of the Tanzanian coconut industry is presented focusing on historical background and the role of coconuts in the economy. Characteristics of coconut cultivation in Tanzania are reviewed looking in particular at the agroclimatic conditions of the coastal belt (rainfall, temperature, altitude), agronomic practices, coconut varieties, and pests and diseases. Harvesting and processing are discussed and prospects for the future of the Tanzanian coconut industry are considered.
