This is the first of two papers on pest control in India. It briefly discusses pest control management and regulation, pesticide production and its supply and demand pattern, current research and development, and the future outlook. An appendix lists pesticide production in India between 1955 and 1991, the pesticides registered in India, technical grade pesticides manufactured in India and their export statistics, and the estimated pesticide demand in India during 1991-92.
