Effect of temperature and moisture in feed on the growth of Aspergillus fumigatus and the formation of gliotoxin

Different natural substrates (hay, peel, buckwheat, maize, cabbage-stalks, grain of rice, wheat, oats, barley, bean, pea, soya millet, maize), temperature and humidity are studied for their effect on the growth of Aspergillus fumigatus and gliotoxin formation by it. Oats and hay proved to be the most favourable for gliotoxin synthesis out of cereals, pulses, coarse, and succulent fodders under study. The temperature of 30-36.degree. C and grain humidity over 30% favour the fungus growth and gliotoxin formation. The gliotoxin synthesis lowers at 22 and 42.degree. C and is absent with the humidity below 30%.
