Keratomycosis in a buffalo calf (Bubalus bubalis) caused by Aspergillus fumigatus

A seven-month-old female buffalo calf examined because of a painful eye complaint was found to have a corneal ulcer about 3 mm in diameter with corneal opacity, chemosis and photophobia. The condition did not respond to oxytetracycline, betamethasone and dipyrone therapy. A strain of A. fumigatus isolated from the eye was highly pathogenic for mice. This appears to be the first report of keratomycosis in buffalo.
