Oral administration of the fungicide-insecticide hinosan (O-ethyl-S, S-diphenyl phosphorodithioate) in doses of 4 and 8 mg/kg per day for 28 days produced significant (P < 0.01) elevation of serum glutamate oxalacetate transaminase (SGOT) activity in male buffalo calves. The extent of rise in SGOT levels was dose- and time-dependent. No significant changes in serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase and serum alkaline phosphatase were detected during the course of the toxicity study. Hinosan-induced increased SGOT activity in vivo suggests its ability to cause internal tissue damage in B. bubalis.
