Seasonal changes in plasma cholesterol and serum alkaline phosphatase and transaminases activities in cross-bred cattle

Blood was sampled during summer and winter from 6 half-bred young bulls each from Brown Swiss X Haryana, Red Dane X Haryana and Holstein-Friesian X Haryana for estimation in plasma of cholesterol and enzyme activity. There was no breed difference in plasma cholesterol, activities of serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT) or SGOT:SGPT ratio; they were significantly affected by season with SGOT increasing and SGPT decreasing in summer. Alkaline phosphatase showed no seasonal variation but only breed difference with the Brown Swiss X Haryana scoring the highest point.
