For 15 groups of Danish Landrace pigs, each comprising 2 female and 2 castrated male littermates, plasma cholesterol concentration at 80-90 days of age at a body weight of 23-25 kg averaged 90 mg % (71-120). The variation within litters was significantly smaller than that between litters, indicating that the level of plasma cholesterol in pigs is primarily genetically determined.
