Serological survey on the prevalence of bovine herpesvirus 1 antibodies in pedigree beef bulls

Of 237 six-month-old bulls received for performance testing at two centres from August 1979 to December 1981, 11.4% were positive to the serum neutralization test for IBR IPV virus antibody. The reactor bulls originated from different herds and widespread locations in the UK. This compares with a reactor rate of 6.8% in 2368 cattle in three English counties in 1974 and a reported 13.2% reactor rate in bulls presented for export in 1982.
