The results of a previous study on protection by propranolol and dicyclohexylamine of .alpha.-blockade suggested that the compounds potentiated the response of the isolated rat vas deferens to noradrenaline . A number of structural analogs of dicyclohexylamine (DCHA) were studied for their effects on noradrenaline responses; some potentiated these responses. At concentrations approaching those necessary to achieve maximum potentiation they brought about the spiked contraction of the vas deferens. The potentiating effects of these amines are discussed with their relevance to the protection of .alpha.-blockade.
