Seven days after castration, the concentrations of glycogen in the epididymis and vas deferens remained unchanged, glucose was increased in the 1st part of the epididymis and decreased in the vas deferens, lactic acid was reduced in both parts of the epididymis but unchanged in the vas deferens, and the pyruvic acid concentration was increased in both parts of the epididymis. Treatment of castrated rats with testosterone increased the concentrations of glycogen in all organs, glucose in the 2nd part of the epididymis and vas deferens and lactic acid in both parts of the epididymis. No significant change in the concentration of lactic acid in the vas deferens and pyruvic acid in the epididymis was noted after testosterone treatment. While the minimum dose of 1 .mu.g of testosterone was sufficient to significantly increase the level of glycogen and glucose in the vas deferens, higher doses were necessary to increase the levels in the epididymis. Quantitative differences in the response of these constituents in epididymis and vas deferens to androgen deprivation and replacement were indicated.
