A woman 45 years old was admitted to hospital in Calcutta, India, with a large abscess in the right gluteal region. This was drained and it was found to be due to Entamoeba histolytica and to a fistula from the caecum. Later, another faecal fistula appeared in the right loin. She was treated with tetracycline plus metronidazole, and later with emetine and chloroquine. This improved the general condition but eventually surgical treatment (right hemicolectomy) was necessary to deal with the fistula. The woman recovered.
