A case of amoebic liver abscess in a 25-year-old man is reported from India. A leucocyte count of 81 000 cells/mmsuperscript 3 with a shift to the left was recorded. The patient was successfully treated with metronidazole (800 mg thrice daily for 10 days), dehydroemetine (1 mg/kg/day) for 10 days and tinidazole (600 mg daily for 5 days).
