The case is described of a young man in South Africa with left upper lobe amoebic lung abscess without established hepatic amoebiasis. Left pneumonectomy was carried out as a matter of urgency. Convalescence was slow. Entamoeba histolytica was identified in sections of the lung. When the histological findings became known, a gel diffusion test for amoebic antigens was done and found to be positive. 2 full courses of metronidazole were given.
