Rupture of an amoebic liver abscess in pregnancy. A case report

In South Africa, a ruptured amoebic liver abscess was diagnosed by laparotomy in a woman who had given birth a few days previously. The abscess was drained, Entamoeba histolytica was demonstrated histologically and the patient was treated with dihydro-emetine. She made an uneventful recovery. This is only the 6th case described of hepatic amoebiasis associated with pregnancy.
