Of 712 sheep examined over a period of 10 years, 27 (3.8%) animals were positively established as carrying rabies virus. Conclusions from the results on rabies diagnosis in general recommend that fluoromicroscopic studies should be performed in cases where sheep were thought to be in contact with wild animals or house pets. In cases where the CNS symptoms of rabies appear and bacteriological tests prove inconclusive, fluoromicroscopic examination of brain tissue is advised.
