Better enforcement of control measures in El Paso commenced in 1965 and it resulted in an increased proportion of vaccinated dogs, fewer persons bitten by stray dogs, an increase in the number of stray dogs destroyed, and a decrease in the number of human beings given antirabies treatment (from 1116 in 1966 to 170 in 1968).
