Infection of murine neuroblastoma cells by inoculation of brain tissue from suspected rabid animals was detected by immunofluorescence 48 h after infection in a sizeable number of cases. This provides yet another rapid method for diagnosis of rabies in suspected rabid animals, and could be included in the routine battery of tests carried out in a rabies diagnostic laboratory.
