Emetine Hydrochloride in the Treatment of Herpes Zoster

Seventy-five cases of Herpes Zoster were selected for a trial of emetine hydrochloride, given I.M. (gr. I) at bed time on two consecutive days along a control group who were under placebo. The main complaints of the patients were pain, fever, eruption and adenitis (in a few). Forty-seven were male and the remaining 28 were female who showed predominance of infection of the right side. The patients below 16 years were 7, above 40 years were 16 and the rest were between 16 to 40 years.
