Emetine inoculated intramuscularly in doses of 10-20 mg twice daily is an effective means for treatment of herpes zoster. In the majority of patients after 1-3 injections the pains subside. In many patients pains and eruptions of fresh elements stop within 1-2 days after the institution of this treatment.
