A method of assay for the enzyme dopa decarboxylase in Musca domestica L. was developed, and the optimal conditions for its activity are defined. The general outline of the method adopted consists in preparing a crude enzyme extract, incubating it with the substrate and purifying by chromatography; the product of the reaction is then measured fluorimetrically. Dopa decarboxylase of Musca is most active at pH 6.6 and at 37 deg C.
