Sandflies (Diptera: Phlebotomidae) from Ethiopia: taxonomic and biological notes

A checklist is given of the 39 species of Phlebotomine sandflies that have been recorded from Ethiopia. The penetration of 15 species of the predominantly Palaearctic genus Phlebotomus into this area is established. Observations are recorded on the distribution and habits of many of the species, and the mating and plant-feeding habits of P. langeroni orientalis Parr. (P. orientalis) and P. longipes Parr. & Martin, in particular, are discussed. Records are given of protozoan, nematode, cestode and acarine parasites recorded.
