Over 38,000 phlebotomid sandflies, possible vectors of leishmaniasis, phlebotomusfever virus and chandipura virus representing 11 spp. e.g., Phlebotomus argentipes Annandale and Brunetti, P. colabaensis Young and Chalam, P. papatasi Scopoli, Sergentomyia babu (Annandale), S. baghdadis (Adler and Theodor), S. bailyi (Sinton), S. clydei (Sinton), S. iyengari (Sinton), S. punjabensis (Sinton), S. shorttii (Adler and Theodor) and S. squamipleuris indica (Theodor), were collected from various outdoor and indoor habitats in 110 villages towns covering all the 26 districts of Maharashtra State between May 1968 and Jan. 1973. S. baghdadis, S. iyengari and S. shorttii are new records for the Maharashtra [India]. Their district-wise distribution and adult habitats are described.
