The authors studied the development of Ancylostoma caninum and Uncinaria stenocephala in adult dogs infected by exposure to 10 to 100 infective larvae. Pathological changes and symptoms were proportional to the number of worms. An itching oedematous erythema occurred within a few minutes at the site of larval penetration and usually disappeared in 3 to 4 days. Anaemia developed in 9 to 11 days. In one dog larvae were found in blood as early as 4 hours after infection. Eggs were discharged in the faeces from day 13 after infection and from the 18th day worms were found attached to the mucosa of the small intestine, producing haemorrhagic lesions.
