The pathology of the kidney in the systemic phase of experimental canine adenovirus infection was studied by means of electron microscopy and immunofluorescence. Marked cellular degenerative changes were observed in glomeruli and tubular epithelium. Virus was detected in glomerular and mesangial cells and in the larger renal vessels. Glomerular basement membrane and tubular epithelial antigens were found by means of gel diffusion in the urine of infected dogs.
