Six SPF pigs were exposed three times during two weeks to group E streptococci. These potential carriers did not develop any visible or palpable abcesses after exposure. Eleven months after exposure only 2 of 6 potential carriers transmitted the disease by contact to susceptible swine. Group E streptococci were not isolated from swab specimens of tonsils and nasal membranes of potential or proved carriers.
