Relatively high values of Mg, Na, K and bicarbonate adenosinetriphosphatases were found in kidney of 80-day-old fetuses and six-day-old piglets. Adult animals had higher activities in the renal cortex than in the medulla. Mg ATPase activity was not influenced by CN ions which stimulated bicarbonate ATPase activity. SCN ions significantly reduced Mg and bicarbonate ATPase activities. Crude protein levels varied between 10.12% in fetal kidneys and 17.04% in the renal cortex of adult animals.
