Activity and various properties of Mg-ATPase, Na,K-ATPase, Ca-ATPase and HCO3-ATPase in the kidney cortex, parotid gland and pancreas of cattle

Highest ATPase activities were recorded from renal cortex of young cattle. Average activities were 26 400 +or- 5700 for Mg-ATPase, 22 500 +or- 6100 for Ca-ATPase, 30 500 +or- 5600 for Na,K-ATPase, and 27 700 +or- 5300 for HCO3-ATPase, all values being IU per kg. The ATPase activity recorded from the parotid of adult cattle was higher than that of young cattle. Lowest ATPase activities were recorded from pancreas, with the values of young and adult cattle being the same. The functional implications of activity differences between the above enzymes are discussed. The ATPase properties of the three tissues were comparable to those found in other species.
