After application of a rubber tourniquet around the limb just below or above the hock, 10-02 ml of 2% lidocaine hydrochloride solution was injected into any superficial vein below the tourniquet. Anaesthesia developed immediately and persisted for 1-2 hours. After release of the tourniquet, normal sensation returned in about five min. The technique was useful for foot surgery and no complications were observed.
