Intravenous regional anesthesia at the V. digitalis dorsalis communis III; an useful means of producing analgesia for surgical operations in the fore-feet in cattle

After fixation, cleaning and disinfection, i/v local anaesthesia in the third digital dorsal vein communis was tested in 22 cattle requiring surgery or other painful claw manipulation. The location of the puncture - dorsomedial at the approximate level of the dew-claw - is illustrated. In 19 cases the vein was punctured at the first attempt. The method is effective, practical and easily mastered.
