On extrait la glycoprotéine rabique en traitant le virus purifié par le «Triton × 100». Le degré de pureté est contrôlé sur gel de polyacrylamide et par la réaction de fixation du complément. Le pouvoir immunogène de cet extrait est mis en évidence par séroneutralisation sur souris et sur plages.
