The vector efficiency of Culiseta annulata mosquito in relation to Tahyna virus

The efficiency of Culiseta annulata (Schr.) as a vector of Tahyna virus was examined by determining the infection threshold and the infection and transmission rates. A relatively high threshold of infection of over 2.3 log. LD50's for mice was found. The infection rate was 54% and the transmission rate 28% 14 days after the infective feed and increased with time. C. annulata is not considered an efficient vector of this virus because of the high threshold of infection and because it is not very common. However, the virus has been isolated from it, and it may prove of some importance.
